Louis Poulsen introduces the Rumee Portable Lamp
November 1, 2025

(New York, October 23, 2025) — Danish lighting brand Louis Poulsen will introduce the Rumee Portable Lamp, designed by Gabriel Tan, founder and creative director of Gabriel Tan Studio. Inspired by the wavy curves of a spacious, broad hat, the Rumee Portable Lamp has a sculptural design that evokes elements from the natural world. Its name is partly derived from “rum”, the Danish word for room, and also hints at the idea of a roommate. This portable lamp is not only visually appealing but also comfortable to hold, making it easy to carry from one location to another.
Gabriel Tan is a Singaporean designer based in Portugal, with a design studio in both Porto and Singapore. This dual location enables him and his team to draw inspiration from both Asia and Europe. This blend of influences enhances the studio’s design processes, resulting in innovative discoveries and creations — such as the Rumee Portable Lamp.

“I’m really pleased with Rumee and use it as my bedside reading lamp. I like that when you hold the organic stem of Rumee, it feels nice and has an emotional quality that invites you to explore its form with your hands.” - Gabriel Tan, founder and creative director of Gabriel Tan Studio
The Rumee emits a beautiful 360-degree soft ambient glow and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Additionally, it serves excellently as a reading lamp, as its tilted head provides a diagonal and downward-facing light that expands its beam angle. The dimmable light is equipped with a diffuser, ensuring ideal glare-free illumination.
